The Snow Play Area, right outside of Fish Camp and just south of the entrance into Yosemite National Park, is another one of the little known gems for the horse camper. You can drive your rigs right into camp. Although this primitive campground has no running water or restrooms, it does offer miles and miles of spectacular trail riding in the sierras including Yosemite's Mariposa Grove and Biledo Meadow, Long Meadow, Buffin Meadow and the trails from Fish Camp on the east side of Hwy 41. Most of the trails cross either Big Creek or Rainier Creek, and water for horses is not an issue. The large asphalt parking lot at the snow play area is an evening stopover for RV enthusiasts, but rarely are there more than two or three at one time. What's even better than that? It's free!
